The Beardy Beard Co

Name: Gail Pedlow

Age: 39 (argh nearly the big 40…still feel like I’m 17, don’t understand how that happened)

Brand name: The Beardy Beard Co (TBBC)

Where do you live? Lisburn, Northern Ireland (just outside Belfast)

Why did you choose that name for your brand? Well that’s a story and a half, we had originally a different name for the brand but as we were launching another company had also chosen such and didn’t like the fact we were also chasing the same name so we manned up, had a rethink and after a few alcoholic beverages the Beardy Beard Co was born and honestly it’s been the best decision for us.

When did you first start making beard care products? Early 2015.

What is your favourite thing about making and selling beard care products? For me it’s definitely making a new scent, it can take a long time (and a lot of money lol) to get it just right. You might know in your head how you want it to be but until you make it and tweak it a few times and then get people’s approval on it you just never know.

What do you dislike about making and selling beard care? Oh this is easy, I do not like putting the tops on the oil bottles, I get blisters every time, need to invest in some good grippy gloves.

How many hours do you normally spend making beard care in a week? Currently not enough but that’s about to change.

Where do you make the beard care products? So we have an office where everything is kept for weighing, measuring and packing then our kitchen for making. I’m a Home baker and have half my kitchen dedicated to baking but I’m about to dedicate that to beard care making instead.

The beardy Beard Co Black Russian

What is your favourite product from your brand? My Black Russian, I’m super proud of it, haven’t met anyone who doesn’t love it yet.

What one other beard care brand or brand owner do you admire? I’m completely obsessed with Captain Fawcett on Instagram…I mean I need to go there and I don’t even have a beard.

What plans do you have for the brand? Oh big, big, huge plans. I’ve 3-4 new scents in the pipeline as well as new merchandise. I just want it all to happen now and it doesn’t work like that lol.

What are your hobbies? Baking, well just generally cooking…I’m never out of the kitchen, attempting to run. We just love getting the kids outside as much as possible in whatever form we can…walking, cycling, running, caravanning. Drinking gin and eating…are they even hobbies?

Are you married/in a relationship? Married to my lovely Lue (Peter), nearly 4 years and the creator of The Beardy Beard Co

What motivates you? Happy kids mainly but I love the new…people are scared of the new but I thrive on it.

What are your strengths? Loyal, kind, witty, silly.

What are your weaknesses? I could do with bigger balls currently…actually just balls would do.

When was the last time you were angry? About 2 minutes ago.

What happened? Hubby not listening to me, more interested in his phone lol.

If you weren’t making beard care what would you want to do for a job? I mean I’ve been running my own cake business for 8 years so I’d probably still be doing that.

What were you like in high school? I chose all the boys subjects and didn’t do too well at that, should’ve stuck to Home Economics.

Do you talk much? My hubby would say too much but working from home you don’t get too many people to talk to during the day so it does build up inside.

Are you introvert or extrovert? I get more extroverted the older I get because you stop worrying about what others think.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why? A seahorse, they’re so cute and pretty and unique and rare.

How do you handle stress and pressure? I explode initially and then just suck it up and get on with it, I love wingin it!

What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever done? I once locked myself out of the house  2 weeks after moving in when my husband was out of the country with Work, my brother in law had to break into the house for me and my neighbours thought we were robbing the place lol.

What’s the best holiday you can imagine? All my lovely family away together somewhere in the sun, doesn’t matter where, bbqs, lots of ice cold beers, fun, laughter and gorgeous sunsets with my best people.

What is your favourite food? Cheese…oh man I’m drooling just thinking about it. Or a roast dinner! Is that cheating?

What is your favourite alcoholic drink? Gin for the win! I will 100% drink anything you put in front of me…and probably ask you to race me too.

What is your most proud achievement? I made the most amazing baby girl who is the sweetest, funniest, most independent person I’ve ever met and she’s only 1!

What is/are your phobias? Spiders, it’s awful, I just put a glass or vase over them until somebody comes home that can get it for me.
