As I sit here the number of lives lost in the Grenfell Tower fire has reached 79, there is public disgust as the incident could have been easily prevented but what now for Grenfell?

Over the next few weeks and months discussion will turn to what happens to the site!

It would be not only very difficult but also very wrong to try and repair the burnt shell of Grenfell, it will always be a reminder of the lives lost because our government was lining their own pockets and ignoring the safety of people in social housing.

So without a doubt the tower will be demolished, I would put money on the powers that be not making the site a memorial, it should be, there should be a memorial park in its footprint or something like that but in London land is way too valuable and so my fear is that the land will turn a profit.

If this is the case, I hope that the people of this country shout so loud that any plans to sell it off fail, that piece of London should be a memorial and not another quick earner for someone who already has too much money.

I can imagine that already behind closed doors it has been discussed, outwardly of course they will say and do the right things but among their own this site will already be a discussion point for its future development.

So I know it’s still early days but someone should be watching and talking to the right people about making sure that the site where so many died or rather where so many were allowed to die, that the site is always kept as a memorial to those people. I know that it’s not on the scale of the 9-11 attacks but as they did, this part of London should always be for them.
