I have been testing The Beard and the Wonderful Beard Balm, a company that are based not far from me in Maldon, Essex.

This has to be the firmest balm that I have tested and I have to say that for me a firm balm is perfect. I have a scruffy beard that is quite hard to keep neat, this balm does an incredible job at keeping it in shape and looking tidy.

Beard Balm from The Beard and the Wonderful

The balm isn’t greasy and gives a lot of hold to my beard and yet my beard still feels soft and natural and a small amount does the job at holding my beard in place. I have used The Beard and the Wonderful wax to keep my moustache in place.

Yes a few stray hairs but believe me, this is tidy for me!

Of course as it’s unscented you could say there isn’t anything to say about scent, but of course even an unscented balm can have an aroma. The Beard and the Wonderful balm is made up from Shea Butter, Beeswax, Jojoba oil and Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil (Hemp Seed) and so there is mainly a slight scent of the beeswax, I have known some unscented balms to smell a little musty but that is not the case here. I know that many guys use a scented oil on their beard and then add a little bit of balm to keep their beard in shape and at an incredible price of £3.49 for the 1 oz/30ml tin, this balm would be a perfect addition to your oil collection.

The Beard and The Wonderful Story

Like many great products, our oils, balms, waxes, and pomades were originally created for our own personal use.

We were frustrated by the lack of premium quality grooming products available to men and just wanted something that worked! Holding and shaping products made for ‘head hair’ usually dissolved in water (not a useful quality for a moustache that is likely to be dunked in water, tea, coffee, juices, and beer throughout the day) and were not firm enough for stiff moustache hair.  Specific moustache waxes and beard oils we had tried were often potently scented and never lived up to their claims. We felt sure that there must be a simple solution – after all, men have been shaping moustaches for centuries.

Beards have a long history and we found details of beeswax based ‘Mustache Wax‘ and ‘Beard Conditioning‘ products (balm, oil) being sold in the United States back in the 1890s.  We kept as close to the traditional methods and ingredients as we could and where substitutions had to be made, only the best quality alternatives were used (e.g. Whale Oil was substituted for Jojoba Oil)

By combining original vintage recipes with top quality modern ingredients (and a whole lot of testing variations on ourselves) we created our first moustache wax and beard oil.  When the products started to take off, the name and packaging was created, reflecting the product’s US heritage  –  The Beard and The Wonderful was born.

We now supply thousands of traditionally made grooming products every week that are loved by our customers because they have been proven to work over hundreds of years, are filled with natural, organic ingredients and are nut allergy safe.

You can purchase The Beard and the Wonderful products from their website and you can also keep up to date with them on TwitterFacebookPinterest and Instagram.
