Review of the Tefal Actifry Express XL

3 min read

I have known about the Tefal Actifry gadgets for a couple of years but I actually dismissed them as another cooking gadget that wouldn’t live up to its advertising. However recently we started using the Tefal Actifry Express XL.

We previously had a small deep fat fryer, but it’s not good for your health but mostly the greasy vapour in the air makes the kitchen sticky and disgusting and so it was binned. We started buying oven chips and tried to convince ourselves that they were just as good, but we all know that they are far from acceptable.

And then the Tefal Actifry Express XL came along, the first thing we cooked obviously was chips and the result was very surprising, finally chips that taste as good as their deep-fried variety.

The real wow moment came when my wife asked if I fancied a sausage sandwich for lunch, she separated them and put them in the Tefal Actifry Express XL and selected 20 minutes and left the, no added oil needed.

I was sceptical but 20 minutes later we opened the lid and there sat the most perfectly cooked sausages I had ever seen! Every single millimetre was perfectly brown and I had an amazing sandwich.

The test came when my daughter and her boyfriend came for dinner last night, it was his birthday and so my wife had asked him what he wanted for dinner.

The answer was Enchiladas and chips and so that is what was cooked, my daughter was moaning saying fried chips were the best and you cant beat them blah blah blah and then out came dinner. I can honestly say, hand on heart that the chips were amazing, crispy and fluffy inside and not greasy.

Of course this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to cooking in a Tefal Actifry Express XL, there are a huge variety of recipes on the internet including Curry, Paella, stir fry, desserts, the list is huge there are websites like this one that list the recipes and it also makes cooking easy.

Now this is important for someone who is disabled or chronically unwell, meals made simple is exactly what we need because many have limited energy and also cooking safely is important.

The Tefal Actifry Express XL is as the name implies the large model, it can handle a whopping 1.7kg of food. It cooks by using hot air pumped in against the bowl and over the top as well. The operation is as simple as selecting the time and pressing start and a small musical notification lets you know when it has finished.

I agree that the price is high for these hot air cookers however click the link and some offers should appear under What other items do customers buy after viewing this item? for about £100 off!

but they really do what they claim to unlike many ‘new style’ cooking devices. The Tefal Actifry Express XL weighs 6kg and has a power rating of 1550 watts.

I highly recommend the Tefal Actifry Express XL, it does everything that Tefal claim and the range of recipes make this a product that will be used regularly.

The Actifry started to return an error code, it basically was saying our electrics were faulty and I know that isn’t true!
So it became unusable and it only lasted a few years and so very expensive for such a short life span!
