First I have to mention the branding!

The Savage Alchemy branding looks really good and it’s different, too often we see brand names and scent names that all are very similar and Savage Alchemy have broken free from that and created a very unique branding.

Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass and I think that is what I have here, without thinking I went to plunge my finger into the Obsidian beard balm and, well let’s just say “ouch”!

The base for this balm is a blend of Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Beeswax, Hemp seed oil, Jojoba oil, Argan oil & Sweet Almond oil and yes the balm is solid.

I actually ended up using a metal plectrum that I recieved a while back with a tin of tash wax to scrape the balm out.

It takes a bit more time to work it in your palms before applying and the balm has a slightly green tinge from the Hemp seed oil.

So I guess that it is no surprise that the Savage Alchemy Obsidian beard balm gives an amazing hold to my beard and keeps it looking tidy.

I like a nice hold, my beard is curly and unruly and without a product to give it hold, it springs back up and looks a mess minutes after combing it.

The Obsidian scent is created from a blend of Pine, Birch & Black Spruce and it has a scent that reminds me of an efficascent oil that a family member brings me back when they visit the Phillipines.

So it is a scent for me that is a winter like scent, it is warming and almost feels like it could help to clear a blocked nose or soothe an aching muscle and I have to say that it’s not for me!

So if you are looking for a very firm balm, then check out Savage Alchemy!
