Review of the Opies Beard Co Black Honey Beard Oil
2 min readOpies Beard Co sent this product to me for the purpose of review and yes I have to apparently now legally state that!
Having previously fallen in love with a Dark Honey scent I was looking forward to trying this beard oil.
The beard oil comes in a brown coloured glass bottle with a glass dropper to dispense the oil and is priced at £6.99 for 10ml or only £12.99 for 50ml!
The base for this beard oil is a blend of Sweet Almond Oil and Vitamin E (Tocopherol).
I am afraid I have been underwhelmed by this blend, it has done what I consider to be the minimum of what I expect from a beard oil. It is one of those oils where initially you feel your beard and feel that it does feel slightly softer but later on it then has a dryness to it, a straw like feel and so you would be needing to reapply midday.
I however always stick to morning and evening to keep testing the same.
Sweet Almond is one of the cheaper of the carrier oils, it is a good moisturising oil but one of its great strengths is that it can help some of the thicker carrier oils be absorbed.
Tocopherol is a form of Vitamin E, it will help to soften hair and make it easier to brush or comb and it apparently helps to increase blood flow and increases growth but I am not sure how effective that is.
My preference is for an oil with a blend of more oils, you really can feel the difference but I also appreciate that this then raises the price of the product. An oil blend should be a carefully chosen blend with different oils offering different benefits and working together to give the best results.
The Black Honey scent;
It is a blend of Patchouli, Bergamot, Black Pepper & Lavender and it is a very nice scent blend, I like it.
I do however fail to understand the Black Honey name, I get that honey is floral and depending on where the pollen is gathered, it can be very floral and Black Pepper gives the black in the name but personally I get anywhere near honey?
But I do like this scent blend, it has been blended beautifully and is floral with a slight sweetness and a warmth from that pepper, it’s beautiful!
