VIDEO REVIEW AT END OF POST
Having previously reviewed the GuardianG1 D5 Mini that has a better camera, better battery, double the storage and is smaller and lighter, I did wonder if the G1 would have anything to offer.
But it does, the layout of buttons and features are in my opinion better and the addition of the button to mark and protect videos is a feature that is very handy!
WHAT IS IN THE BOX?
- 1 x G1 BODY CAMERA
- 1 x CHARGING DOCK
- 1 x CAR CHARGER LEAD
- 1 x USB LEAD
- 1 x UK 3 PIN PLUG
- 1 x BODY CLIP
- 1 x CROCODILE CLIP
- 1 x CHEST HARNESS
- 1 x SHOULDER HARNESS
- 1 x KLICKFAST STUD & DOCK
- 1 x USER MANUAL
I was impressed with the accessories with the D5 Mini and the G1 tops that with the addition of the Klickfast Stud & Dock mount.
The fact that you get a Charging Dock and 3 Pin UK plug is refreshing to see, so many products now come with just a lead and no plug as they want to cut costs and assume (rightly) that we all have USB plugs or will just charge via a laptop.
The G1 weighs in at 175g and measures H-9.7cm, W-3.3cm, L-6.2cm and although it has a weight to it, it isn’t overly weighty and not very noticeable when worn on one of the mounts!
The G1 has a 140° Wide Angle Lens that gives HD 1296p video at 30fps & 32MP for stills and features night vision capability.
It has a built in 32gb card which is more than capable of handling a shift or journey
It has 4 infrared lights and one white LED light and two light sensors and you can select in the settings if you want those infrared light to come on automatically or you can switch them on manually.
The camera is turned on by holding down the power button located on the top on the right for a few seconds and the opposite button is for the infrared and white led lights.
The Guardian G1 has more options to connect it and as well as the USB connection it has an HDMI output and an AV out as well as a 3.5mm headphone port.
On the right hand side of the G1 you can see at the top the addition of the button marked with a star, pressing this marks the current video segment with a star so you can mark an incident or just a favourite part of your recording.
The one press buttons for Audio recording stills shot and video are easy to find once you have familiarised yourself with the camera and you can take a photo even during video recording.
The video quality is clear as is the audio and the night time recording in low light is very impressive.
Couple all of that in with the fact that it is IP65 Weather protected and you have a serious piece of kit that is suitable for law enforcement, security, extreme sports and even just to record your walks, bike journeys etc.
The built in GPS watermarks the recordings with coordinates and the recordings are also watermarked with Date, Time, the set serial No and Name and the camera can be protected with a password to block employees changing the settings.
So the G1 has surprised me and I just love this camera, its features and the layout of the buttons, a cracking product.
In the video review (below) I talk about and demonstrate the attachments.
