I have waited a year to review the Buzz Work Wear Fencing Jacket from Simon the Beekeeper because it was such good value that I wanted to make sure it wasn’t too good to be true!
When I started to explore if I could start beekeeping, it wasn’t only from an accessibility point of view, I had to consider if I could afford it.
I was looking around at the prices of all the gear and protective clothing and the prices made my eyes water and I thought that it wasn’t possible.
Then I came across the Simon the Beekeeper website and the prices are so reasonable that I knew we had the green light and could start building the hive.
The Buzz Work Wear Fencing Jacket is priced at £19.99 and I did wonder if this might be like buying a pair of Primark boxer shorts but after wearing it to inspect the hive and carry out work like weeding around the hive, it has lasted over a year now!
It is made from poly-cotton and has elasticated wrists with the elastic that hooks over your thumbs to keep the sleeves from riding up and it also has an elasticated waist.
The full length zip is sturdy and is easy to zip up and down as are the zips that close up the fencing veil.
There is a breast pocket that is embroidered with a bee and the words Buzz Work Wear and two side pockets.
The fabric is a nice thickness and the suit is well-made with no dodgy seams or seams coming adrift and the same for the zips, they haven’t come adrift from the jacket.
I personally like the Fencing Veil style, I know some people prefer the round veil as the hat keeps it in place a bit better. If that is an issue, the solution is wearing a baseball style cap under the Fencing Veil.
I had originally purchased a full suit but from a disability point of view, it was too much effort getting in and out of it and Simon the Beekeeper were very good and refunded me when I explained and returned it.
I chose the Cappuccino colour, it is also available in white but I know I am a messy sod and so it should disguise the marks better than the white.
Priced at £19.99 from the Simon the Beekeeper website this is amazing value for money and I can see the Buzz Work Wear Fencing Jacket lasting me a good few years as a hobby beekeeper.
