I make no secret of the fact that I consider the cheap High Street brand beard care products to be something to avoid. So when Roni one of the Guardians of the Beard admins sent me a bottle of Bulldog Original Beard Oil, I was apprehensive.
However, I may have been too quick to judge, because even though Bulldog Original Beard Oil is very reasonably priced and available on the high street, it’s not bad.
If you have followed my reviews for some time you will remember my encounter with The Great British Grooming products and how I basically said to throw it in the bin.
This is the case with many of the cheap high street brands because they need to mass make the products and the products need to be cheap and need a long shelf life.
This means they usually contain mostly paraffin oil and other crap that you don’t want to be putting on your beard.
Bulldog Original Beard Oil contains Sunflower Seed oil, Sweet Almond oil, Coconut oil, Borage Seed oil, Argan oil, Jojoba seed oil, Camelina Seed oil, Fragrance, Limonene,Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Soybean oil, Tocopherol, Oakmoss extract, Linalool, Citronellol, Geraniol, Aloe Vera Leaf extract, Citral, Green Tea leaf extract.
So it does show that you can produce a beard oil for the high street without the list of ingredients looking like my old chemistry book and feeling like…..well crap and yet when I spoke with Great British Grooming they said they needed to use those ingredients to keep the price down and give a good shelf life!
Anyway, let’s get on with the review!
First off, the oil left my beard feeling very soft, I was so impressed with how my beard felt and because I test the products without looking at the ingredients and so it was definitely not what I was expecting. The oil is clear and has a medium consistency.
The scent is almost cologne like, a very masculine scent that has hints of citrus and again I was impressed.
Basically my advice is that if you can’t afford the more expensive small batch made oils, the Bulldog Original Beard Oil is not going to disappoint.
Bulldog is a damn good affordable product that I would happily use and I know that if I wasn’t testing and reviewing the products, then this would be my choice of affordable beard care.
Priced at £5.50 for 30ml, it is not only going to break the bank, but you can not only purchase the oil from their website, but also from Superdrug and Boots and so if you need beard oil in a hurry, here’s the answer!
