Psst – Other People’s Opinions Do Not Matter! We are all aware of this, the message is often put out there and yet for some reason, we all revert to worrying about what people think!
How often do you wear aftershave and then scrub it off in case people think it’s too much?
How often do you dye your hair a fun and unusual colour, but then cover it in case people think it’s too bright?
How often do you wear clothes that are funky colours and styles, and then hide them back in the wardrobe in case people think that they’re not appropriate?
Why the heck do you care what people think?
Who are these people, and why are you allowing them to have power over your self-esteem? The one thing that most people forget is that by living a life weighted in the opinions of others, they can easily forget how to be confident and feel beautiful – all because other people have more of a say over their lives. If you want to dye your hair pink and your boss is okay with that, why shouldn’t you do it? If your stress is making you lose your hair, why shouldn’t you look at how much does a hair transplant cost? Some people are people pleasers and will do anything to ensure that the people around them are happy about their presence and if you’re one of those people, then it’s time to ask yourself why it matters so much.
You are the person who has to look in the mirror and see yourself every single day. If you are the person who is happy with what they see, do the opinions of other people really matter? No one else is the judge of you. It comes down to being happy with your ethics, your values and your looks and if you are, then you don’t need to allow the weight of other people to rest on your shoulders. The other people out there don’t know you the way that you do, so their opinions shouldn’t matter. Think about the ways that you have evolved as a person and how you have built yourself to the person that you are today and you will instantly wonder why you ever bothered with outsiders.
As a person, no one can hold you back but you, and it’s so important that you know that.
Whether they are holding you back in your appearance or they are holding you back creatively, you need to figure out what inspires you and drives you. If you know what you are about, then no one can tell you that you’re wrong for that. It’s nice to get feedback from people, but is it hypocritical if they’re telling you all about how to live your life when theirs is in chaos? Absolutely!
The one thing that you have to remember above everything else is that you are perfect exactly as you are, unless YOU are the one unhappy. If you want a makeover, you should go ahead and have a makeover. If you want to stay exactly as you are, then do that, and don’t let anyone tell you that you shouldn’t!
No one in this world has the power to control the way that you feel about yourself. The only one you can count on is you.
