Review: Manmane ‘The Zesty One’ Moustache Wax

4 min read

Something that I didn’t even consider about beard care products is that some guys may want Vegan friendly products. As a Non vegan I didn’t realise that using Beeswax was a no, however it is a big no and it’s hard to get hold of Vegan friendly Beard care products!

And so Mike set about producing a range of vegan friendly products for the UK beard care market and I have been sent Manmane ‘The Zesty One’ Moustache Wax to test and review.

I was immediately impressed as I like the slider type tins, they are handy and easy to handle. ‘The Zesty One’ is of course zesty but it’s more than that, Zesty makes us really just think of lemon but Manmane ‘The Zesty One’ Moustache Wax is a blend containing Grapefruit and Bergamot which is a Zesty oil, it’s actually Bergamot Orange and it also contains Ylang Ylang which can be floral but it also splits people’s opinions on what they can smell and some describe it as smelling of custard and even rubber!

I certainly don’t get that from ‘The Zesty One’, it is indeed zesty and has a floral backnote, Mike has blended the oils at the right strength, making it smell great but not too strong, you can get Moustache wax that is a massive burst of scent but this is then sat literally right under your nose all day.

Manmane ‘The Zesty One’ Moustache Wax is firm but not so firm that you have to fight to scrape some out of the tin, a small amount between my thumbs and fore fingers was then gently worked across my tash and then I ran a comb through my tash to style it. The wax gave my tash quite a good hold, it is a medium hold but applying a second coat after a minute or so kept my tash nicely in place for the day.

My daughter is a vegetarian, she gave up eating meat about a year ago and I always tease her about how her products never taste as good as meat! ‘The Zesty One’ does not in any way feel different to a wax made with Beeswax, in fact it doesn’t feel sticky like some can, so what is it that is used instead of the beeswax? Edit:After using this a while I have found a difference between this and a wax using Beeswax, this was is slightly crumbly when you scrape some out, maybe it has dried slightly? It is now two months on and this wax is my daily use moustache wax and I really like it. Yes it is slightly crumbly as I scoop some out but it is soon ready to use after working between thumb and forefinger and maybe quicker than if it contained Beeswax. I have decided to change the score from an 8.5 to a 9!

Manmane have used Jojoba Wax and Carnauba wax which are plant-based products, they have blended those with Shea Butter, Coconut Oil and Vitamin E oil and the result is very nice indeed. The one thing that does annoy me about having all this face fur is the moustache hair constantly ending up in my mouth, ‘The Zesty One’ helped to keep it away from my mouth!

Manmane ‘The Zesty One’ Moustache Wax comes in a 15g slide top tin and costs £7.00 from their website, the wax is also available as

The Fresh OneTea tree, Peppermint and Patchouli

The Spicy OneAnise Star, Black Pepper and Patchouli

The Woodsy OneTea Tree, Scotch pine and Vetiver

The Floral OneRose Geranium, Grapefruit and Ylang Ylang extra

Manmane also sell a range of Beard Oils and Balms that are also Vegan Friendly!

  1. Hi Zec,

Just noticed the edit to your review and thought I would offer an explanation. I always send a note out to our customers to explain the effect on moisture either on your hands or in the air on the organic Shea butter contained within the moustache wax. It might go grainy or crumbly in contact with moisture or if very cold. If it’s very cold I advice warming on a radiator or in your pocket which ever is appropriate, however this is not really nessessary, as you have pointed out, as long as you put in a little bit of extra melting time.
We are happy with 8.5/10, however , I feel a reduction in score because of its “all natural” differences to a Beeswax product is a reduction we will take compared to using Beeswax, Lanolin or artificial chemicals. We are an ethical company and our products are different but they are well received in the UK and all over the world and we would not wish to change the formula for the reasons given. The product as you point out works fine, smells fine and gives a non artificial medium hold that looks natural and not contrived and this is what we aimed for. Thankyou Zec for your review.

    Kindest regards
    Michael Thompson
