Less Pregabalin, more alert!

For about a year or more I have been wanting to come off the Pregabalin, I wasn’t happy with the things I was reading about the drug and my eyesight was getting worse, a pharmacist had told me several years ago that it does affect eyesight.

I have also been struggling with memory and either using the wrong words or not being able to think of the right word, I was ready to start reducing my dosage in December but I have heard about people having bad withdrawal symptoms, I didn’t want to risk feeling even worse than usual over Christmas and so I waited.

The plan was or my plan was to drop 25mg on the morning dose for a period of time and then drop 25mg on the evening dose after any withdrawal settled down, however my GP wanted me to drop from 300mg to 225mg and so I was apprehensive.

Just over a week ago I changed my morning dose to the 225mg dose and to my surprise, I felt brighter, more alert and it felt good and so after one week I changed my evening dose as well.

I haven’t felt any extra nerve pain so far, I will take this dosage for another week and then go and see my GP to get a prescription for the next dose down.

So fingers crossed that this is a smooth withdrawal from this brain melting medication, I wasn’t really happy starting it but I let the pain management team talk me into it. There is only one person in full control of our health and that is us, its our body, its our life and we should learn to take more control over our health.
