I have been sent a very useful product, the The Hydrant drinks bottle Hydrate for health and its a 1 litre drinks bottle that has a large clip that enables it to be attached to a wheelchair or a hospital bed etc and has a 1.2 metre drinking tube with a bite valve. It comes with a clip to attach to clothing for easy access to the drink tube and you can also purchase a tube director that slides over the drink tube and allows it to be formed into a shape and will hold that shape.

I get an extremely dry mouth because of the medication that I take, wherever I go I have to take a bottle of water and that means I have to try and access the rucksack on the back of my wheelchair. Now The Hydrant means that I can clip the bottle on the bar on the back of my wheelchair and a sip of water is always at hand. I know that the next time I have to stay in hospital, The Hydrant is coming with me because the jug of water and plastic cup that sits on the over bed tray is always left out of reach, I will now be able to clip the bottle onto the bed and not worry about not reaching my water or spilling it as I often do. If the Hydrant is placed above head height then once the tube is filled with fluid, it becomes a siphon and will just flow once the bite valve is used.

Keeping hydrated is so important, I’m not very good at making sure I drink enough but the Hydrant will allow me or my wife to keep an eye on exactly how much water I drink. Many of us don’t drink enough water, dehydration causes many problems but its more problematic in people with chronic health problems, this is what the NHS website says about dehydration http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/dehydration/Pages/Introduction.aspx

This drinking system can prevent these problems, it can also allow someone who can’t lift a glass to drink to drink without relying on someone to assist and when we are unwell or disabled, the more we can do for ourselves, the better we feel.
