All we hear lately is election, election, election!
Its on the news, its on chat shows, its on every newspaper and then there are the election communication leaflets that are being pushed through my letter box faster than fast food leaflets!
They are talking about the NHS, taxes, immigration, housing and busy poking fun at the party leaders.
Not once have I heard an MP talking about the problems that disabled people are enduring because of welfare cuts and work capability assessments, not once have I heard the news reporters or the chat show hosts ask the questions that all disabled people are desperate to hear.
What was the real kick in the face for me was when Nick Clegg appeared on The Last Leg, I was convinced that this was the moment when I would get to hear one of the leaders of the coalition explain why disabled people have been let down. After all the programme was born out of the 2012 paralymic games, a show hosted by Adam Hills an Australian comedian who is an amputee and co-hosted by Alex Brooker who has hand and arm deformities and a leg which had to be amputated when he was a baby and then there is Josh Widdicombe who is, well he’s Josh Widdicombe. I couldn’t believe it when they just joked about university fees and Clegg’s poor delivery of a joke, I was convinced that these guys would take this opportunity to make Clegg account for the disability welfare reforms, but no, they were clearly either too scared or they were told not to mention it!
We all know that the media outlets are told what they can and cant say, everyone talks about countries where there is no such thing as free speech, but the truth is that this country is just as bad as the likes of North Korea and Iran and we are one step away from countries like Romania where the disabled are institutionalised and treated like second rate citizens!
