It’s not often that something different comes along in the beard care world, but Wholly Kaw ‘Bare Naked’ Beard Oil is exactly that, it’s different.
Most beard oils are made up from a mix of carrier oils and then into that essential oils are blended to create the scent. Wholly Kaw has used something called plant esters that are found naturally in plants and are structurally similar to cholesterol and I can honestly say that it works well in beard oil.
Wholly Kaw ‘Bare Naked’ Beard Oil contains Avocado esters the active ingredient from green chemistry. The plant esters from avocado oil are sourced sustainably from Mexico, Peru and South Africa. Isoamyl Laurate which is a naturally derived and Ecocert approved natural silicon alternative which has great sensorial properties: light, velvety, silky and non-sticky. It also contains sustainably sourced organic Argan oil and organic Jojoba oil.
It is an unscented oil but I always smell the oils when I have warmed them in my hands, they say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and I became concerned when I had a smell of the warmed oil. Normally an unscented beard oil smells slightly nutty and the scent of the carrier oils is very subtle. Wholly Kaw ‘Bare Naked’ Beard Oil had a rather strong scent that reminded me of used cooking oil and I instantly wasn’t impressed.
However like I said, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, although that is not the best phrase to use but anyway, I was wrong to judge it. Once on my beard the scent of the oil wasn’t noticeable and it really made my beard feel very soft, yep not just soft, very soft!
I don’t know very much, well anything about plant esters but clearly they work very well in beard oil. My beard was incredibly soft and it also looked good. It is a very light oil and so it didn’t help to control my beard but if you are after an oil to soften your beard, this will do the job very well. It will also help to moisturise the skin under the beard and so help prevent dry skin and beard itch.
Wholly Kaw ‘Bare Naked’ Beard Oil is available from the website and the 30ml bottle costs $25.99.
