After previously testing the Smooth Viking Beard Balm, I was slightly confused as to the purpose of the Smooth Viking Beard Conditioner. I have placed it in the Beard Balm category because it is like a soft balm.
The conditioner contains Shea Butter, Mango Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, Argan Oil, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Jojoba, Beeswax, Pure Essential Oil and their balm contains Mango Butter, Shea Butter, Beeswax, Avocado Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Argan Oil, Castor Oil, and Pure Essential Oil.
I looked on their website for any information, this was the first time I was unsure on how to use a Beard care product. So I decided that the best idea was to contact them.
I sent an email to Smooth Viking
Is the beard conditioner designed as a leave in all day product?
Jamika from Smooth Viking replied
Excellent question. Yes, the Beard Conditioner is designed to be left in all day. Most customers apply it in the morning either right after the shower, or by simply wetting their beard when they get ready for the day. You can reapply as needed.
Most of our customers have a 3 step regimen for their beards. The Beard Conditioner is the first step in their beard hair care regimen to moisturise the hair. They use this in conjunction with the Beard Oil which seals in the moisturise from the Beard Conditioner, and to further nourish the hair. The last step would be to use the Beard Balm, which is used to double seal and to style.
I had hoped that a reply would help me, but I am actually even more confused as to why I would use this product.
Anyway I always test products as a stand alone product, so I applied the Smooth Viking Beard Conditioner to my beard and did so in the morning and before bed for three days.
My conclusion is that their Beard Balm actually left my beard feeling softer than the Beard Conditioner. Now it gives me no pleasure in casting doubt on a product, it’s the only part of reviewing that I actually dislike, but I have to be honest as people trust my reviews and so I must report as I find.
I actually prefer a balm now that my beard is longer, using a balm leaves my wire wool like beard feeling softer and I have never felt the need to oil and then balm, although I guess that if you had a favourite oil, you could use a plain balm to tidy those stray hairs.
